Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (about 450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (rice wine) or rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Thinly sliced green onions (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
    • In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Let it marinate for at least 15-20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a separate bowl, combine gochugaru, gochujang, honey (or brown sugar), mirin (or rice vinegar), and sesame oil. Mix well to form the sauce.
  3. Cook the Chicken:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned and cooked through.
  4. Add the Sauce:
    • Lower the heat and add the prepared sauce to the pan. Stir to coat the chicken evenly with the spicy sauce.
  5. Caramelize the Sauce:
    • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to caramelize and coat the chicken thoroughly.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Transfer the Korean Fire Chicken to a serving plate.
    • Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
  7. Serve with Rice:
    • Enjoy the spicy and flavorful Korean Fire Chicken with steamed rice.

Note: Adjust the spiciness and sweetness according to your preference by tweaking the amount of gochugaru, gochujang, and honey.
